Developing Intercultural Competence through Education Abroad - a two-part series

Intercultural competence is a combination of “power skills” that enable individuals to interact effectively and appropriately across cultural differences. Many employers look for employees who have developed skills like empathy, curiosity, flexibility, communication skills and the ability to work across language and cultural differences. When done right, education abroad can help students to develop cultural agility and flexibility.

This two-part workshop is intended for faculty and staff who work with students before, during or after their education abroad experiences. These virtual workshops will explore a set of strategies and practices that practitioners can use to enhance their own abilities to facilitate intercultural learning among their students. Workshop #1 will focus on the pre-departure phase, while Workshop #2 will emphasize the time students are abroad.
